Tesco HGV Driver blows the whistle on Tesco's dirty habits?
This is a note that should be brought to the attention of all customer's at Tesco's. I used to be a HGV driver delivering all types of food/produce fresh chilled frozen etc.
I was working via an Agency company for several months, however when i applied for the vacancy i was turned down for the job not because of my excellent driving nor the fact i always did my job well. NO the fact that i dare complain to Tesco....
Having been a chef in HMFoces for several years, My health and hygiene is of reasonably good knowledge. So when i refused to take rubbish back in my lorry, that had been left outside a store for several days, The managment were not too happy. If my vehicle had been empty fair enough, however i had fresh produce on, and i think it is disgusting to have fresh produce in cages next to rubbish which could have anything inside of it , inc vermin. WOULD you buy produce if you had known it had sat next to soaking wet cardboard?
I am desperately trying to get hold of tesco's to make a formal complaint however the no i phone never seems to be answered, I hope this helps in some way.

This is disgusting. It comes as no surprise to me that this goes on, fair enough if tesco wishes to reduce the amount of journeys it makes, but surely there should be better procedure than this.
netto would never allow this to happen.
Thats because Netto have only sold enough to fill up half a small bin.
Clearly you are talking childishly now; but the simple fact remains, that is Tesco has let this happen. Netto would never let this happen.
Prove it! Just "Netto would never let this happen" all the time isn't proof! It juast makes you look stupid! The second something goes wrong in a Netto you'll look a right twat!

hi i too am a tesco driver and the level of hygeine is unbelieveable!! you may have up to 3 drops on each trailer, at each drop you off load cages of food then reload cages of plastic and cardboard that as been stored outside with god knows what crawling all over it. then its back to the rsu to offload your contaminated rubbish then the trailer is reloaded with food for the next delivery without being cleaned!steer clear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think it's about time somebody contacted the media about this, not just to try and tarnish Tesco's name, but to genuinely make an attempt to change their practices, this cannot be allowed to carry on.
Former Tesco backdoorman here. We never loaded rubbish onto split load trailers unless we were the last store and the trailer was empty.
However, from the state of the trailers it was clear they weren't cleaned as often or as well as you would expect so it wouldn't surprise me if they went directly from being ful of rubbish to being loaded with fresh.
THIS PROCEEDURE HAPPENS WHEN DELIVERING TO THE SMALLER STORES WHEN THERE MAYBE UP TO 3 DELIVERIES PER TRAILER AND THE CARDBOARD ETC HAS TO BE TAKEN AWAY DUE TO LACK OF SPACE AT THE STORES
I worked in a superstore, so didn't know that.
yes the rsu cages are mixed with the food cages when delivering to express stores. but not at the bigger stores!! the smaller stores lack storage and quite often store cages outside before putting them on a truck with food.
Not knowing where else to leave this, has this site been shut down? There hasn't been any new Tesco Complaints on the home page for weeks and I know some have been sent in.

I am not at all surprised this has happened. I worked for Tesco for years and what goes on in the back ground people would never shop there. Rubbish can be left outside in the back yard for weeks and in all weathers then the lorry comes and takes it away, after delivering to the store.

Its true the situation with RSU is sickening.
As we are a borderline express/ metro store with our didcot deliveries we are either the first or second drop. If we are first drop we can never send all our rubbish back on the wagon. I would hate to be the store which has the last drop mainly because of the rubbish and lack of hygine the wagon is in.
Its the flies that make me feel the most sick.
I have never seen rubbish loaded on split loads, it doesn't make any sense, you would have to unload all the card to get to the delivery, you know how fussy Tesco is about productivity! The sneek!
Driven for Tescos for years and have never ever mixed cages of cardboard with fresh stuff. Would refuse to load up with RSU if It was not my last stop, Metro or otherwise. If that is happening then its the store manager taking the pi$$ with agency drivers and trying to cover up bad management of the store room.
Dude if you are genuinely HM Forces then you would know how to work in a team, take orders and work to rank. You should have done what you were asked and probably would have kept your job. Then taken action by cleaning the lorry and finding a solution to the problem through rank and probably got a promotion. Maybe after all this time you have worked this out and learnt from your mistake. No one likes a tattle tale or someone who causes problems for management.
i work for tescos in one of there stores in wales for 7 years back in the early 90tes and the times that the management have told us to load the lorrys with wet carboard in a lorry that has still got fresh stock in it was quite often. so i dont blame the driver for saying no to the manager at the end of the day health and higene should come first be for makeing a fast buck or two.

all supermarkets are the same. you complain but they ignore you when your an agency driver. problem is, if it changes then prices start going up. quality control and health and safety are checked regularly and if theres a problem it gets brought up. at the end of the day we dont live in the middle ages and were pretty safe from anything bad happening. what im concerned about is all companies must take on a percentage of ethnic workers but wheres the laws for how many brits have to be employed. all distribution centres now have a min of 80% migrants working in them taking british jobs. wheres the justice?????!!!!!

I'm a security guard in a tesco express store. Tesco must've responded to complaints as drivers never take rsu cages on a trailer with goods on, only empty cages...admittidly these have been left outside but hey!
i drive for sainsburys and they have a policy never mix salvage ie empty crates,cardboard and food waste with any food being delivered to a store.
i am also an agency driver and for the last 7 years ive seen this happen at all the supermarket stores and rdc's, ie: co-op,somerfield tesco. i would imgine all have the same policy. to overcome this problem is easy, have a dedicated driver each day to collect all card/rubbish ect. if this is not productive it would be good pr and put the customers mind at rest.
I too worked at tesco's via agency work, and I refused to take the shit away from one of their stores whilst I still had fresh produce on the trailer. Guess who wasn't asked back again for them!. Be warned, it's your licence and your fine from the enviromental officers, (public Health).
I to am a Tesco driver and I am not naive enough to think that the removal of recycling (rsu) is limited to Tesco. It must happen every where due to the high cost of transport. I agree it is a problem that needs addressing but moaning about it is not the answer. Most of the comments refer to the collection of rsu from the small stores (metros etc) and drivers deliver to 2 or 3 stores sometimes more so have to collect rsu. Double deckers are also used for economy yet there are no facilities available to wash the inside of these trailers.
Sorry too reveal the truth, but netto are just as bad as Tesco, Asda etc, I know this as I have driven for all of them!!
