Dare You Feed Baby Tesco Yoghurts? ~ Tesco-Complaint

Dare You Feed Baby Tesco Yoghurts?

I was looking for the address of Tesco's head office on the Internet and thought that this may also be something which you could post on your blog.

I visited the Oystermouth Swansea store on the 5th December to buy some Petits Filous yoghurts for my 9 month old daughter. When I picked up the yoghurt pack it was dated 22nd November. All other yoghurts items on the shelf were also 2 weeks out of date. Presumably people had been buying these out of date yoghurts. These are popular first yoghurts for babies and new mothers buy them because they presume they are healthy for their children but it could have made a baby really sick. I went to the customer service desk to inform the attendant who wrote ‘Petits Filous’ on a scrap of paper . I have no idea if these yoghurts were ever removed from the shelf.

Unfortunately, when I mentioned this to other mothers they also commented that it wasn’t the first time and that they had regularly seen items several weeks past the use by dates still on the shelves. This has now put me off continuing to shop at Tesco and I feel so strongly about the harm this could do to young babies that I will go to any length to make others aware of the poor quality and stock control mechanisms operating at Tesco.

That's truly revolting - its been known in my store for lots of out of date goods to sit on the shelves for months on end.

TESCO get your act together!!!

Push for compensation. Do not accept another arrogant apology letter and a £5 Tesco Voucher....

Compensation for what? Noticing something?

Wow, I'm a huge Tesco defender and very pro-Tesco, but that's really bad. Sometimes in my store the previous day's stock sometimes takes a while to get removed from the shelf, it happens, but WEEKS out of date is unacceptable.

The manager for dairy at that sore certainly needs a dressing down if all claims here are true.

Clearly, the section manager for dairy needs a severe kicking in the Bollox. Systems and procedures are clearly not being followed. The store manager also clearly does not know what is going on in his/her store.

I hope the local authority closes this store down, and builds a nice little village full of local shops instead.

THIS IS WHAT WE NEED MORE OF NOT TESCO!

I am a Duty Manager in a Tesco branch and there is simply no excuse for this, Rumblers are not doing their job as these should have been spotted before they went to end of code.

This actually happened in my store when we had a decent store manager, he did a random rumble to check on the staff found some out of date ravioli and he disciplined the whole department and demoted the manager.

I agree that is shocking. Someone IS responsible for that and so they really should get to the bottom of it to stop it from happening again.

This isn't really an excuse for this incident, but when you mentioned "Petit Filous yoghurts" my ears pricked up a little. Are they those little pots of fromage frais that come in a six pack of different flavours? I only ask because I've had problems with that particular product in my store also. For some reason they don't sell here. And I really mean don't sell. When I notice that they'll go out of date in a few days time, I write them in the log book (mainly to remind myself not to forget about them) and as part of that process count them. When the time comes to reduce them, I'll often find that the number of yoghurts is the same. This seems to happen every month. I've brought this to the attention of others (in the hope we'll just stop stocking them) but to no avail as apparently when we didn't stock them we were forever getting requests from parents with young children. Can't win there really. It sounds unfortunately as if people aren't as vigilant at the store you visit, but tempted as I am to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, I think it could be said that this is an isolated incident. Again, don't want to excuse anybody's lazy behaviour. Just thought that this little insider knowledge might help in your assessment of the situation. I for one am now even more curious about this product and want to know why excess quantities of the stuff are being dumped on more than one store. I'm showing the stock-control geek in myself now. Perhaps if you write a letter they'll take more notice of you than me. I recommend the Dundee address and if you don't get an adequate response, ring them at Cheshunt in Hertfordshire.

What your blog did get me angry about was the attitude of those at the CSD. Mistakes are made occasionally by everyone anywhere, but how are people meant to prevent them from happening again if the messages aren't passed on to those who can do something about it? I'd be really annoyed if something like this had happened because of me, but it wasn't brought to my attention properly. Unfortunately some people don't look at the bigger picture because I think those in stock control at that store would actually rather the person at the desk chased them up about it. And you should be able to feel confident that when you approach the desk they will sort out your problems.
I personally would like greater cooperation between departments across the business.

afterdark, I'm failing to see the attitude you're angry about. I've worked on a supermarket CSD and that's exactly what I would have done - made a note of the product that needed to be removed and then contacted the relevant people. If I couldn't get hold of anyone I used to go and pull it off myself.

Sorry I might have misread it, it just sounded to me that the original complainant believed this was some sort of mollifying trick. Perhaps that's just negative experiences "if I write something here this woman will leave me alone" on my part influencing my mind when I read it.

You're right, what you did is exactly what should be done and I wish everyone did. Thanks for calling me up on that one.

That is disgusting and staff should be checking what is on the shelves. I have never had any problems with my local brances I use 2 Tescos for all my shopping.

Although I think people should reconsider buying petit filous for babies anyway to say they are a healthy option is totally incorrect, my health visitor has told me they are full of sugar dentists are now warning parents just how bad they are they are best avoided for young babies.

Have just returned from Tesco, having failed in my attempt to get a refund on stale almonds that were well within their sell-by date. The store manager was unbelievably rude, implying that I'd shoplifted them and then just ignoring me.

Interesting that if you search Tesco's website using the term "complaints, nothing comes up...

I'm NEVER, NEVER shopping at Tesco again (and I shouldn't have been before, really- environmentally, the place is a nightmare)
