Tesco's Misleading Price Indications

Whilst reading the earlier post about Tesco overcharging and being guilty of misleading price indications contrary to the Consumer Protection Act 1987, I recalled an incident in Norfolk in September 2001 where Tesco complained to Trading Standards about Asda resulting in Asda being investigated and ending up in court with a hefty fine for misleading price indications. Read about that on BBC News.

It seems to me most ironic that today whilst Asda don't seem to have a problem with wrongly labelled prices, Tesco have a huge problem hence their refund and retain (R&R) policy. Isnt it ironic that whilst Asda have sorted out their misleading prices, it is Tesco who complained about Asda that are now facing problems. Report any misleading prices to Trading Standards who can see to it that hefty fines are imposed and if Asda are reading - perhaps it's time to roll back some justice?

As a Tesco employee myself (not, I hasten to add, the same one who has commented on just about everything else) I find that a lot of the time customers are "overcharged" because they haven't read the labels properly.

The policy at my local Tesco used to be that if you were overcharged you got your money back and got to keep the goods. This has now changed so that you get a refund of double the difference. While this may sound great that you are getting double the difference back it works in Tesco's favour (surprise surprise) nearly all of the time.

Well, ( a few years ago )we got a new set-top box completely free from our local Tescos - it should have been £29.99, but the checkout operator didn't notice that our bill for 4 pints of milk, a loaf of bread and a few sundries including the set-top box should have been more than £10 - so we're happy with Tescos...

There was a huge sign in Tesco the other day saying Buy One Get One Free with bottles of ribena behind the sign. Of course you automatically think that the Ribena is under this offer. After purchasing two and going to the tills I realised it was not! This is what you call misleading! Yes behind the big sign was a smaller sign for the ribena which was in fact buy one get one at half price. Not sych a good deal! Why place the Ribena directly behind the sign Buy One Get One Free! Why not place the actual product that it was mean't for! Quite often customers are in a hurry and Tesco know this! So much for every little helps!!

Sites like this are a joke, quick to jump on the mistakes Tesco because there the biggest supermarket yet no mention of any other major supermarket, I've worked in supermarkets for years and all of these mistakes happen at every store, its the nature of the business, when a store has over 100,000 products some labels are bound to be wrong or out dated its just human error it has nothing to do with Tesco being a big money orientated business. half the time if customers read the label correctly they would see if the label allied to that product of if the offer had run out as its clearly on the label, and to top it off if there is a genuine error they will give you double the difference in return? yet you people still think they rip you off? there was an image above showing a product for £6.99 down to 3.45 as half price as an example of incorrect labeling? that's better than half price.
