Do not touch my BOX!!

Not so much a complaint about the companies ethos as the sheer rudeness of one of their staff. I visited their store in Fulbourn, Cambridge, this afternoon.

I had a look around the wine section and found a number of offers to tempt me. I selected half a dozen bottles and then looked around for a box to put them in. The Tescos employee in charge of the wine section was emptying half cases of wine in order to make an end of aisle display so I asked him if I could have one of the empty boxes; he refused! In a very abrupt tone he told me I would have to use the flimsy card carriers they provide instead. He then appeared to make a point of tearing up the box he had just emptied.

Half way along the aisle was one of their rubbish cages with a *complete* empty box beside it, so I picked it up and went to put my bottles in it. No sooner had I picked it up than I noticed the employee was bearing down on me! He shouted that "THERE IS ALWAYS ONE" at me in an aggressive manner and just stood there glaring at me.

At this point I tried to politely explain that I don't like using their carriers as I find them too flimsy. Indeed this same employee had had to fetch a mop the last time I used one as the bottom gave way mid way to the till and all 6 bottles shattered on the floor. Evidentially his memory isn't that hot. Was there really a heinous crime in me using an empty cardboard box that had been consigned to the rubbish pile?

Apparently so. He stormed off again muttering at me.

Thanks Tesco, there's nothing like sheer rudeness and public embarrassment to make me go to Sainsburys.

  1. Again, Tesco alienate their staff from the customers. The newer designed wine carriers are awfully thin and flimsy, compared with the old ones, so it is only natural that this customer wanted something a bit sturdier. Why did the shop floor assistant feel the need to make the customer feel like a nuisance, and embarrass them?
Again, I feel that a fair amount of compensation (at least £50) should be offered to the customer, as a way of apologising for the disgusting treatment recieved.

  3. LOL Hilarous! If Tesco gave £50 to every customer their staff were rude to, they'd soon go bust!

  9. Geez, are you desperate for traffic or somthing? I agree with the anon who said:
"Your site that dead now that u make things up lol."

I still work part time for Tesco, whilst studying for my masters, and we will give these cardboard boxes away to anybody who wants them. There is no reason to not let you have them. So, either you lucked out and found one annoyed member of staff, or made up this nonsense.

  10. Sort of same happened to me. I don't use their ridiculous baskets when buying bottles and had one of those heavy plastic shopping bags so put my shop in there. Got up to the check and emptied it and a little turd-faced security guard approached and started hassling me, yet I've done this probably a hundred times. I have had rudeness and pushiness from even the manager at Egham Tesco before. They suck. Had enough. Switching to Sainsbury's.

  13. There are risks to using cardboard boxes, if it split in the store you would be the first to complain. You wouldnt have a leg to stand on ,do you realise the amount of shit that staff member would be in. Whilst the wine carriers are flimsy, they can hold 6 bottles of wine! Stop being so paranoid it wont break.

Such a thick complaint, think before you post!

  14. If you'd asked for a box at the checkout you would have got one. I don't understand this complaint.

Why would you need a box on the shop floor? Wine goes in Trolley, customer goes to checkout, customer removes wine from trolley and places into wine carrier or cardboard box helpfully provided by checkout assistant.

This scenario is played out every day in hundreds of stores.

  15. My cardboard wine carrier broke tonight as i carried it from the boot of my car to my kitchen, resulting in 3 broken bottles of red wine and a ruined hall rug.

  16. i have to agree with everything i have read on this site.I worked in a York store,i thought that maybe one or two problems we had would be on here, but every store seems to be the same.Bullying by management, stressed and depressed workers, penny pinching illegal practices, out and out rudeness from senior manager, racism which was kept quiet, signing contracts to agree not to post derogatory remarks on sites such as this.Thats the real reason there arent many comments on here because staff are told they face disciplinary steps if they are caught doing so.Disciplinary steps mean you are eventually sacked after conjured up reasons are made to get you the sack.It beggars belief what lengths this company will go to to bully you out of your job,i know,it happened to me.
