Tesco Own Range Houmous with Extra Salmonella?

Tesco is recalling it's private own label houmous produced by food manufacturer Bakkavor which has been found to contain unacceptable levels of salmonella which could cause health problems if ingested. All date codes up to the 28 February are affected. Tesco is advising consumers to return products to the store at which it was purchased for a full refund.

  1. Very responcable.

  2. It made by another company for tesco, so how is it tescos fault?

    ReplyDelete
  3. well they shouldnt put their name to it then, wankers, making out its their "own brand" stuff makes me sick hope terry leahy resigns over this, arsehole

    ReplyDelete
  4. It's called white label products. Why should Terry Leahy resign over this? Surely not doing anything would be a reason to resign not the other way around!

    ReplyDelete
  5. So how much of Sainsbury's and Asda's own brand products are actually produced by them? Not many I would imagine.

Does that make you sick too?

  6. Does anyone remember the recall on Cadbury's chocolate? If a similar issue can occur a large food manufacturer like Cadbury, then it can happen to anyone.

    ReplyDelete
  7. at least sainsburys would feel guilty and apologise tesco just think they are amazing and will act like it never happened yes tm i worked in a tescos for a long time and ive seen the amount of EPWs you try and sweep under the mat, without letting the public know.
Scum of the Earth, tesco are

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm not aware of EPWs being ignored like you claim. The majority of EPW's are not due to health risk anyway, usually quality issues, wrong packaging etc.

    ReplyDelete
  9. oh yes they are! How many times have you read "Risk of Foreign Object" or "Incorrect date codes", "Risk of contamination" etc...you would expect this information to be posted to the public but no, the product is just removed from the shelves, and the EPW tracker filled in.
How do you sleep at night?

  11. Yes it's Tesco that are the scum of the Earth and not the rapists, murderers, child abusers, paedophiles........ need I go on?? You need to revaluate your opinions - there are people out there who are a lot worse than the successful organisation that is Tesco.
Have you also worked for all other retail giants and know for a fact that they do not do the same as Tesco? I got a letter from Boots a few months ago which was recalling a toothbrush I had purchased as the heads were falling of them. I go to Boots often and read the papers - I saw no mention of this anywhere. It is not just Tesco who do not necessarily broadcast every failing.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tesco is afterall a reseller and not a manufacturer. Most EPWs are just a precaution due to there perhaps being one example of fault and there would be no need to panic the public every time. I work in stock control and read the EPWs on email daily and I have to disagree most would not be a risk to health.

  13. Oh Look, Sainsburys have a recall too!!!!!

Sainsbury’s own brand houmous products (including flavoured and topped houmous)

All use by dates up to and including 28 February 2007.

Routine testing has identified a very small risk that these products may contain Salmonella. If you have any Sainsbury’s own brand product containing plain or flavoured houmous, please bring them back to your nearest Sainsbury’s store for a full refund.
A full list of affected products is available instore at the customer service Ddsk.
This issue affects a number of major UK food retailers.

No other Sainsbury’s products or date codes are affected by this recall.

  14. This goes to prove YET AGAIN, the invalid argument put forward by Tesco-Complaint against Tesco.

So, not a good example as it affected other retailers, not just Tesco.

    Better luck next time Tesco-Complaint!!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I am NOT a representative of Tesco-Complaint, I used to work in the Stock Control department of my local store, and having frequently encountered the smug, arrogant attitude of the management, now hate the organisation. This is how I had access to the HOST system, and read most of the EPWs. The two examples you have presented me with just go to validate my point, you are clearly fairly thick. My point was that Tesco do not broadcast most of their EPWs, and therefore are hiding the information from the public, and then the person who mentioned toothbrushes from Boots, HAD BEEN SENT A LETTER AFTER SHE BOUGHT THEM. Therefore Boots had let her know there was a risk! The Sainsbury's information you presented me with is also in the public domain, but Tesco chooses to keep around 90-95% of their EPWs quiet.
I appreciate that the food is made by a third party, and i'm sure you will appreciate that Sainsbury's is also "in the same boat", as it were.

    ReplyDelete
  16. So do you have evidence that ALL other retailers "broadcast" their EPW's or similar?

As for having a smug and arrogant attitude, that is how you coem across.

Very glad you say "used" to work, or did Tesco just cut out the deadwood?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'd like to point out that Boots sent a letter because it had my address from my advantage card. How did they contact the others who had purchased the toothbrush?? What are the odds that they all had advantage cards?? If they didn't have a card it looks like they were not informed.

  18. The facts behind the recall are this.

Salmonella was found in M&S products, and becuase Tesco uses the same supplier they recalled their own range as a precaution.

No Salmonella was found in any Tesco product.

    ReplyDelete
  19. "Very glad you say "used" to work, or did Tesco just cut out the deadwood?"

I left because I had more self-respect than to work for this hideous company. I would rather claim benefits than work for Tesco, and I am a hard working person.

  22. Hi,

Great blog. You describe the subject in a great writting style and put forward your complaint very well. As I was surfing the web for product complaints I have stumbled upon your site and also I have noticed a very interesting site that allows you to post your own product complaints. In addition you can post any type of consumer complaints

    Regards,

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am awear that it was posted several months ago, this is to the dim witted person that used to work for Tesco. (I currently work for them and am a union rep)

Firstly - with that attatude im glad you left.

Secondly - If you remember your handbook, it states that missuse of the computers and any other information is considered Gross Misconduct. (IE sackable offence)

Thirdly - beofore you shoot me down- Telling people what happens inside any staff area is GMC - that shouting your mouth off with what comes up on HOST.

So did you leave or where u sacked? You misused you access codes and possition.

Oh and if anything is considered hazodus to health by law they have to issue a recall notice and withdraw the product ASAP.

Tesco is not above the law
